Singapore and a Beach Holiday: A City and Island Guide

Published September 2026|Getaways

Combine a Singapore trip with a few quiet nights on a private Indonesian island. Telunas Resorts sits in Indonesia's Riau Archipelago, reached from Singapore by ferry and boat via Batam. This guide covers how to split your nights between city and island, the route step by step, which resort and room suit you, what the trip costs, and how to plan your entry and your return.

Who This Trip Suits, and How Long to Allow

This guide is for travellers who already have Singapore on the itinerary, for a holiday, a stopover on a longer journey, or a family or business visit, and are weighing whether to add a few nights on a quiet island nearby. Telunas Resorts is in Indonesia's Riau Archipelago, reached via Batam, not in Singapore itself. Because the crossing takes real time (see the route below), this works best as a genuine multi-night extension, not a stop between flights: plan on adding it to a trip where you have several free days, not a single free afternoon.

Allocate Your Nights: A Sample City-and-Island Timeline

The schedule below is an editorial example, not a guaranteed itinerary or bookable package: Telunas offers the island stay, not the Singapore leg or your flights.

DayExample plan
Day 1Arrive Singapore, settle into your city hotel.
Day 2Full day in Singapore.
Day 3Morning ferry from HarbourFront to Sekupang, boat to Telunas; rooms available from the 2:00pm check-in.
Days 4-5Full days at Telunas: activities, the resort, and slowing down.
Day 6Return boat and ferry to Singapore (see return options below); overnight in Singapore.
Day 7Fly out from Singapore.

A three-night resort stay is shown here. Two other ways to allocate the same trip:

Shorter, five days and four nights: spend one night in Singapore, two at Telunas and one back in Singapore before flying out the next day. This leaves less city sightseeing time and one full day on the island. Check that your arrival flight and the next morning's ferry fit before choosing this shorter example.

Longer: add extra Singapore nights before or after for more city time, or extend the island stay to four or five nights. The crossing itself doesn't change; only how many nights you put on each side of it does. Each extra Singapore night mainly buys flexibility around the crossing and your flights; each extra island night buys more time at the resort.

See how to plan a short getaway from Singapore if you are travelling from within Singapore itself and don't need the city buffer nights.

The Route: Singapore to Telunas, Step by Step

The crossing itself, from HarbourFront Centre Ferry Terminal to the resort, takes approximately 2.5 hours, subject to the ferry and boat schedule on the day. Allow extra time to reach HarbourFront and check in for the ferry. Telunas's pre-arrival guidance recommends arriving at the terminal 1 to 1.5 hours before departure, or 2 hours on holidays; confirm the operator's current instructions when booking. Resort room check-in begins at 2:00pm.

Ferry to Batam: book the recommended 10:00am Sindo Ferry from Harbourfront Centre Ferry Terminal to Sekupang Ferry Terminal, not Batam Centre. Most guests land at Sekupang around 10:00-10:10am Batam time, which runs one hour behind Singapore. Sailing times can change, so check Sindo Ferry's current schedule before you book.

Prepare your arrival card: before travelling, use the step-by-step All Indonesia guide to prepare your arrival details and find the official submission service.

Team-guided terminal transfer: at Sekupang, the Telunas team (wearing blue Telunas polo shirts) meets you and guides you from international arrivals to domestic departures, a short 5-minute walk plus about 20 minutes of terminal transit, then onto the onward boat.

Boat to Telunas: a further boat ride of approximately one hour carries you through the Riau Archipelago to the resort.

Choose Your Stay: Private Island or Beach Resort

Both properties sit in the same archipelago and share the same route from Singapore, but they suit a different kind of stay. Private Island is quieter and more secluded, with the adults-only Ridge Villas as its most private option. Beach Resort is more social and casual, with overwater bungalows at a lower price point, and is open to families.

Telunas Private Island

15 Overwater Villas plus 5 adults-only Ridge Villas. Only the five Ridge Villas each have a private plunge pool; Overwater Villas have a private balcony over the water, sea views and a family loft, and welcome families as well as couples. Ridge Villas guests share the Grand Lodge and Poolside Bar with families staying in the Overwater Villas. Plated three-course dining, an overwater spa, and a quieter, more secluded setting overall.

Telunas Beach Resort

Overwater bungalows from a compact room to a 3-bedroom-with-loft layout, buffet-style dining, and a more casual, rustic setting suited to families and groups.

What This Trip Costs: Every Component

Budgeting for this trip means adding up more than the nightly room rate shown above:

International ferry: your Sindo Ferry ticket between Singapore and Batam, booked separately from your Telunas stay. Check Sindo Ferry's own site for current fares.

Room rate: the nightly rate for your chosen room (table above), quoted for 2 adults, before 10% government tax and 9% service charge.

Required meal plan (billed separately): at Private Island, plated three-course dining runs USD 69*(IDR 1,215,000)per adult, per day and USD 31*(IDR 550,000)per child, per day. At Beach Resort, buffet-style dining runs USD 48*(IDR 835,000)per adult, per day and USD 24*(IDR 415,000)per child, per day.

Domestic boat transfer: charged per person round-trip between Batam and the resort, at separate adult and child rates confirmed during booking.

Scheduled activities: included at no extra charge when they appear on the resort roster, such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, jetty fishing, a nature walk and an evening bonfire.

Optional extras: massage treatments, the fishing boat adventure, and a handful of specialty dining experiences such as Candlelight Dinner cost extra and are worth booking ahead.

Rates update automatically for your currency on each room's own page. For an accurate total covering your dates, room and party size, use the live booking flow on your chosen room's own page.

Entry and Visa Planning

Entry requirements depend on your passport and can change, so check the current rule for your own nationality rather than assuming every passport is treated the same. Every passport needs at least six months of validity remaining from your arrival date. Depending on your nationality, you may be eligible for visa-free entry, a visa on arrival, or an e-visa, each with its own current fee and conditions: confirm your exact requirement on Indonesia's official visa portal before you book. For the arrival-card step and other pre-departure preparation, see the pre-arrival information guide. Telunas offers the island stay itself; it does not book your flights, your Singapore hotel, or handle visa applications on your behalf.

Plan Your Return Before You Book an Onward Flight

Telunas currently publishes two return departure options from the resort. All departure times below are Batam local time, one hour behind Singapore:

Early departure: leave Telunas at 8:15am on the local ferry to Sekupang, connecting to an 11:20am ferry from Sekupang to Singapore.

Normal departure: leave Telunas at 1:15pm on the local ferry to Sekupang, connecting to a 3:20pm ferry from Sekupang to Singapore.

These times can change, so check the current schedule on your resort's getting-here page before you book. Build a genuine buffer between your Sekupang-to-Singapore ferry arrival and any onward flight, since ferry and boat timing can shift with weather; Telunas can't guarantee a specific connection. If you have date-specific timing you need help planning around, get in touch with the team (see below) before you book your flight.

Adding an island stay to a Singapore trip is straightforward once you know how the nights split, the route, and what it costs. Choose the resort and room that fit you, and plan your return before you book an onward flight.

Ready to choose a room, or have a question about your dates? Ask the Telunas team about your island stay and transfer and we'll help you plan the stay itself.

For your return city stay, check Singapore ICA's current entry requirements as well as Indonesia's requirements for the island leg.

Planning Questions, Answered

Can I visit Telunas during a Singapore stopover?

Only if your stopover includes multiple nights. The outward crossing from HarbourFront Centre Ferry Terminal to the resort takes approximately 2.5 hours, plus time to reach the terminal and check in for the ferry. Plan this as a multi-night extension to your trip rather than a same-day layover between flights.

How many nights should I add to a Singapore trip for an island stay?

There's no fixed rule; it depends on how much city time you want versus island time. One option is two to three nights in Singapore plus two to four nights at Telunas. See the sample timeline and the shorter/longer options above for how each extra night changes the trip.

Where in Singapore do I need to be, and is it near Changi Airport?

The crossing departs from HarbourFront Centre Ferry Terminal on the southern coast of Singapore, not Changi Airport. If you are arriving by air, you will need to get from Changi to HarbourFront first, which is a separate leg to plan into your timing.

Is the ferry going to Batam Centre?

No. Telunas guests travel to Sekupang Ferry Terminal in Batam, not Batam Centre. Book the recommended 10:00am Sindo Ferry departure from HarbourFront; most guests arrive at Sekupang around 10:00-10:10am Batam time (one hour behind Singapore). Sailing times can change, so check Sindo Ferry's current schedule before you book.

What visa do I need, and how do I check current requirements?

It depends on your passport, and requirements can change. Every passport needs at least six months of validity remaining from your arrival date. Depending on your nationality you may be eligible for visa-free entry, a visa on arrival, or an e-visa, each with its own current fee and conditions. Check the exact requirement for your passport on Indonesia's official visa portal before you book, rather than assuming every nationality is treated the same.

Does Telunas book my flights or a Singapore hotel?

No. Telunas is the island stay itself, at Private Island or Beach Resort. Your flights into and out of Singapore, any Singapore hotel nights, and your visa arrangements are booked separately by you.

What if my return flight is tight after the island stay?

Telunas currently publishes two return departure options from the resort: an early departure connecting to an 11:20am ferry from Sekupang to Singapore, and a normal departure connecting to a 3:20pm sailing. These departure times are Batam local time, one hour behind Singapore. Allow time after arrival in Singapore for immigration, travel to Changi and airline check-in. Check current transfers before booking, or ask the team about your dates.
